Audition Information

Click on a week below to open up what happens in that week

Week 1

Come along, listen, enjoy and maybe join in a bit (you'll be given our visitor folder with all the music we're singing). Meet the MD, Chair, Membership secretary and other members of the chorus.

Week 2

Come back, have a 1:1 with the MD who will assess your voice and assign you to a particular voice part (Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass). MD will explain the audition songs and between you, you will choose which one is best to learn. Continue to listen, enjoy and join in a bit more. Our Membership Secretary will give you access to the members area of our website where you will fine all our learning materials for the audition song.

Week 3-6

Come back, enjoy and join in more. You will work on learning the audition song at home during this time, and will then spend time 1:1 with your voice part section leader on a rehearsal night. During this period the chorus will also sing the audition song so that you can hear how we perform it. You are welcome to sing with us.

Week 6

This is audition night. You will sing the audition song together with three other chorus members (probably section leaders) in quartet. They will sing their voice part and you will sing your voice part. You as part of the quartet will sing it in front of the MD and your section leader. It will be in a private room, not in front of the chorus. We will record it so that we may properly assess it after the audition, so that we can give you full feedback.

What happens when I pass?

Very quickly, we will let you know the result of the audition. When you pass our Membership Secretary will invite you to join the chorus and ask you to complete various forms to formalise your membership. You will need to set up a standing order for monthly payment of modest subs. You will now also be given full access to the members area of the website which gives you all our repertoire. Your section leader will then discuss with you which songs to start learning. Every member has to submit a recording for assessment of each song, which is not as daunting as it perhaps sounds, but it does ensure that all members of the chorus are singing to the same quality.

What happens if I don't pass?

If for reasons which we will explain you have not passed your audition, we will arrange the date for the next audition.
